Mural concepts for building
facades of the alley

Downtown Glendale has several historical alleyways that are not only used as service entries for the businesses fronting the streets, but also as a pedestrian network for the downtown area.

The “Old Roma” Alley Pedestrian Alleyway project strives to make these spaces more pedestrian friendly by adding brick pavers, pedestrian lighting and landscaping, while limiting alley vehicular traffic to business owners and service vehicles. This project is the pilot for the eventual transformation of other downtown alleys into pedestrian walkways.
Sherman Group worked with business owners, City officials and MAG to design a pedestrian way that was inviting, safe and cost effective.

The transformation of the alleys will help create an enjoyable environment for pedestrians and help enhance Downtown Glendale’s vibrant downtown district.

On this project SGI performed:

• Design of pedestrian oriented elements of lighting, landscaping, pavers
• Design of limited vehicular traffic to business owners/service vendors
• Concepts of themed, historical environments in building murals
• Downtown linkage to activities and events
