From the original Sherman Group design of this municipal plaza constructed in the mid-eighties, to its million-dollar-plus redevelopment (2002-05), Murphy Park, and adjacent retail street, surrounding the Glendale Municipal Complex has become the hub of many well-attended public events. SGI is honored to have served the community by:
• Providing landscape, hardscape and irrigation design including brick paved sidewalks, teak benches, decorative bollards, trash receptacles and pedestrian lighting
• Improvements to widen hardscape spaces for greater festival use
• Solutions to prevent damage to turf areas from high-intensity activity, and drainage upgrades
• Addition of fifty trees, seat walls, landforms and a water feature
• Enhancement of a viable public space to accommodate vendors/patrons alike, while easing maintenance burdens for the City
SGI won a 2006 Valley Forward Award of Merit and a 2006 ASLA AZ Chapter Merit Award for this project.
